Democratic Party Mokpo Basic Councilor Primary Candidates and Uncontested Nomination Announcement
Mokpo Da·Ma·Sa Electoral District Primary, Ga·Na·Ra·Ba Single Candidate Recommendations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seunghyun Jeong] The nomination screening results for basic councilor candidates from the Democratic Party of Korea in Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do have been announced.
According to the Democratic Party of Korea Jeollanam-do Provincial Party on the 25th, the Public Office Election Candidate Recommendation Management Committee's screening results determined that among the seven basic councilor electoral districts in Mokpo City, the Da and Sa districts will have a three-person primary, the Ma district will have a four-person primary, and the Ga, Na, Ra, and Ba districts will have single-candidate nominations.
First, in the Ga district, which initially had a high proportion of prospective candidates, political newcomer preliminary candidate Park Hyosang was nominated as the single candidate, while incumbents Park Yongsik and Kim Gwiseon, city councilors, were assigned to the Na and Da districts respectively.
Next, in the Na district, single-candidate nominations were also decided, with preliminary candidate Choi Hwansuk assigned to Ga and incumbent city councilor Kim Gwanho assigned to Na. In the Da district, preliminary candidates Park Sangjun, Park Changsoo, and Seo Kyungsoo will compete in a three-person primary, with the top first and second place candidates assigned to Ga and Na respectively.
Historically, the Ra district has been a fiercely contested basic city councilor election in Mokpo, and this time incumbent city councilor Lee Hyungwan was assigned to Na, while newcomers Yoo Changhoon and Jeong Jaehoon were assigned to Ga and Da respectively, signaling a generational change in the local elections.
Conversely, in the Ma and Sa districts where calculations became complicated, preliminary candidates Ko Kyungwook and Choi Jiseon were assigned to Ga. The remaining Ma district preliminary candidates Kim Wontaek, Yoon Chisul, Jo Seongo, and Choi Wolgon will compete in a four-person primary, while in the Sa district, preliminary candidates Kim Changmo, Park Yongjun, and Lee Jeongsang will compete in a three-person primary, with the top first and second place candidates assigned to Na and Da respectively.
In the Ba district, preliminary candidates Choi Wonseok and Jeong Seonggwan were assigned to Ga and Na respectively, and incumbent city councilor Moon Chabok was assigned to Da, resulting in a single-candidate nomination.
The screening results by the Public Office Candidate Recommendation Committee were made in accordance with Articles 91, 92, 93, and 102 of the Democratic Party of Korea's party constitution, deciding the single-recommended candidates and primary candidates for the 8th simultaneous local elections in Jeonnam. Reconsideration requests can be submitted within 48 hours from the announcement time.
