Jeonnam Province "Apply for the Restaurant Hygiene Rating System"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Jeonnam Province is expanding the designation of the Restaurant Hygiene Rating System to create a clean and healthy dining environment.
Implemented since 2017, the Restaurant Hygiene Rating System allows business operators to apply for a hygiene rating evaluation. After the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute assesses the hygiene status, excellent establishments are awarded ratings to guarantee consumers the right to choose restaurants. Eligible applicants include general restaurants, snack bars, and bakeries.
Sixty-four items such as food poisoning occurrence, ingredients, kitchen, and restroom management are evaluated, and only excellent establishments receive ratings of ‘Very Good’, ‘Good’, or ‘Fair’.
Currently, there are 36,249 establishments subject to the hygiene rating system in Jeonnam. Among them, 919 establishments have been designated with hygiene ratings and are operating accordingly. These establishments receive various benefits such as certificates and signboards, exemption from hygiene inspections for two years, and hygiene supplies worth approximately 180,000 KRW.
Applications for the Restaurant Hygiene Rating System can be made online through the ‘Food Safety Nara’ website. Applications by mail, fax, or in person are also possible through the hygiene departments of city and county offices or the Food and Drug Division of Jeonnam Province.
For more details, refer to the integrated civil complaint consultation board on the ‘Food Safety Nara’ website or contact the hygiene department of the city or county where the business is located.
