[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea has dropped to the 30,000 range for the first time in 76 days. The number of critically ill patients hospitalized also fell to the 600 range for the first time in 57 days, showing a clear stabilization of the outbreak.
On the 25th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, 34,370 new COVID-19 cases were reported, bringing the cumulative total to 16,929,564. The daily new cases decreased by 30,355 from the previous day (64,725), marking the fifth consecutive day below 100,000.
The newly reported cases on this day were below 30,000 for the first time in 76 days since February 8 (36,713), and the lowest in 80 days since February 4 (27,435). On the same day of the week a week earlier, the 18th, 47,730 new cases were reported, marking the first time in 68 days that the number fell below 50,000.
The number of critically ill COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized is 688. This is a decrease of 38 from the previous day (726), dropping to the 600 range for the first time in 57 days. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 35.6%, with 33.5% in the metropolitan area and 40.6% in non-metropolitan areas.
The number of deaths due to COVID-19 reported yesterday was 110. The cumulative death toll stands at 22,243, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.
The number of new patients under home treatment increased by 41,259 the previous day, bringing the total number of patients under home treatment as of midnight to 509,696. Among them, 45,128 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.

Meanwhile, 414 elderly people aged 60 and over received their fourth vaccination dose the previous day. The fourth dose vaccination rate among the elderly population was recorded at 5.4%.
