Hong Jun-pyo as the People Power Party's Daegu Mayor Candidate... Kim Jin-tae in Gangwon and Heo Hyang-jin in Jeju (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Assemblyman Hong Jun-pyo has been confirmed as the final candidate for the People Power Party in the Daegu mayoral election for the June 1 local elections. In Gangwon, former Assemblyman Kim Jin-tae, and in Jeju, former Jeju National University President Heo Hyang-jin were each selected as candidates.
Jung Jin-seok, chairman of the People Power Party's nomination management committee, announced the results of the primary elections for the three metropolitan governors of Daegu, Gangwon, and Jeju on the 23rd at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul.
For Daegu mayor, Assemblyman Hong defeated former Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won and lawyer Yoo Young-ha to become the candidate. Assemblyman Hong received 49.46% of the total votes, which combined the votes from responsible party members and the general public opinion poll. This figure reflects a 10% deduction for incumbent lawmakers. Former Supreme Council member Kim and lawyer Yoo recorded 26.43% and 18.62%, respectively.
In the Gangwon governor primary, former Assemblyman Kim, who made a comeback after being cut off, won. Former Assemblyman Kim received a total vote rate of 58.29%, defeating former KBS anchor Hwang Sang-moo, who received 45.88%.
In the Jeju governor primary, which was a three-way race among former Korea Asset Management Corporation President Moon Sung-yoo, former Jeju Provincial Party Chairman Jang Sung-chul, and former President Heo, Heo was selected as the final candidate with 40.61%. Former President Moon and former Chairman Jang received 28.45% and 37.22%, respectively.
The People Power Party's nomination committee also announced the results of the primaries for the mayors of Suwon, Goyang, Yongin, and Changwon on the same day. Former Assemblyman Kim Yong-nam will run for Suwon, former Liberty Korea Party Goyang-byeong district chairman Lee Dong-hwan for Goyang, Yongin-byeong district chairman Lee Sang-il for Yongin, and former Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning Science and Technology Strategy Headquarters Director Hong Nam-pyo for Changwon as the People Power Party candidates.

This primary was conducted from the 21st to the 22nd by combining 50% votes from responsible party members and 50% from the general public opinion poll.
