US Imposes Additional Sanctions on 3 Cryptocurrency Wallets Linked to North Korea-Connected Lazarus Hacking Group
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] On the 22nd (local time), the U.S. Department of the Treasury added three cryptocurrency wallets presumed to be owned by the North Korea-linked hacking group 'Lazarus' to its sanctions list.
The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) stated, "We have included three cryptocurrency wallets of the Lazarus Group on the sanctions list," adding, "North Korea relies on illegal activities such as cybercrime to circumvent U.S. and UN sanctions and raise funds."

Earlier, on the 14th, the Treasury Department identified Lazarus as behind the $600 million cryptocurrency hack of the blockchain video game 'Axie Infinity.' Lazarus is presumed to be an organization linked to North Korea's Reconnaissance General Bureau.
Lazarus is currently listed on the sanctions lists of both the United States and the United Nations.
