Dong-A ST Signs Business Agreement with Pamir Therapeutics for Degenerative Brain Disease In Vitro Diagnostic Kits
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Dong-A ST announced on the 21st that it has signed a strategic business agreement with Pamir Therapeutics, a company developing in vitro diagnostic kits for degenerative brain diseases, for the "sales and supply of in vitro diagnostic kits for degenerative brain diseases."
Through this business agreement, Pamir Therapeutics will collaborate on ▲ development of in vitro diagnostic technology for degenerative brain diseases ▲ supply and technical support for early Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diagnostic kits. Dong-A ST will carry out sales and marketing activities for the in vitro diagnostic kits for degenerative brain diseases.
Degenerative brain diseases can have their symptoms effectively controlled with early treatment, making early detection of onset important. The two companies plan to pioneer a new diagnostic market for degenerative brain diseases by combining Pamir Therapeutics' early diagnostic technology for degenerative brain diseases with Dong-A ST's sales capabilities and expertise in diagnostic devices.
The number of patients with degenerative brain diseases is rapidly increasing due to population aging. According to the Health and Medical Big Data Open System, Parkinson's disease increased by about 79% over 10 years, from 61,565 patients in 2010 to 110,147 in 2019.
Pamir Therapeutics, established in 2019 as a research-focused company, has demonstrated the clinical efficacy of blood microRNA (miRNA) biomarkers through investigator-initiated clinical trials. It is currently developing real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) based in vitro diagnostic kits for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.

A Dong-A ST official said, "The recognition rate of early onset of degenerative brain diseases is low, so many patients miss the treatment window," adding, "We hope that through cooperation with Pamir Therapeutics, which possesses early diagnostic technology for degenerative brain diseases, we can help improve the quality of life for patients with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases."
