[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] As speculation arises that U.S. President Joe Biden will visit South Korea next month to hold a Korea-U.S. summit with President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, the White House announced on the 20th (local time) that it may soon release related schedules.
According to the White House, spokesperson Jen Psaki stated at a briefing that in response to questions about President Biden's visit to South Korea, "I do not have anything to confirm beyond what the President himself has already confirmed about the trip."
However, Psaki added, "We are confident that we will say more soon." This is interpreted to mean that although the visit schedule has not been finalized for public release, an announcement will be made in the near future.
Korea-U.S. authorities are reportedly negotiating for President Biden to visit South Korea on the 20th of next month and hold the summit either that day or on the 21st.
President Biden is scheduled to visit Japan around May 24 to attend the Quad (United States, Japan, Australia, India) summit. It is reported that the schedule is being arranged so that he visits South Korea first before Japan.

If the Korea-U.S. summit is held around May 20-21 as currently known, it will be the shortest period since the inauguration of a new government. Additionally, President-elect Yoon is expected to visit the White House either during the United Nations General Assembly in New York this fall after his inauguration next month or through a separate visit to the U.S. solely for the Korea-U.S. summit.
