Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and Seoul Bar Association Discuss Issues of 'Geomsu Wanbak'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and the Seoul Bar Association held a regular legal meeting on the afternoon of the 19th at the Central Prosecutors' Office building to discuss measures to strengthen the right to defense and issues regarding the infringement of the right to defense by the 'Geomsu Wanbak (complete removal of prosecutorial investigation rights)' bill.

The meeting was attended by Lee Jung-soo, Chief Prosecutor of the Central District Prosecutors' Office, first, third, and fourth deputy prosecutors, Kim Jung-wook, President of the Seoul Bar Association, and Lee Jae-heon, Senior Vice President of the Seoul Bar Association. The Central District Prosecutors' Office explained at the meeting that the Geomsu Wanbak legislation has problems such as depriving suspects of the opportunity to defend themselves and eliminating procedures for remedying human rights violations. The Seoul Bar Association stated that, together with the Korean Bar Association, they will hold forums and strive to establish a criminal justice system that guarantees the human rights of the public.
