Garygus "I am the first player in the Super Golf League"... 'Submitted application to PGA Office for participation approval'
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] Robert Garrigus (USA, photo), ranked 1043rd in the world, is expected to become the first player to participate in the long-veiled Super Golf League (SGL).
On the 20th (Korean time), the American Golf Channel reported, "Garrigus recently submitted an application to the PGA Tour office requesting permission to participate in the SGL tournament." To participate in tournaments not organized or co-organized by the PGA Tour, players must submit an approval application to the office at least 45 days in advance. Although there have been many rumors about players joining the SGL, Garrigus is the first whose participation application has been confirmed.
Supported by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund, the SGL will hold its first tournament on June 9 near Wentworth, London, UK. PGA Tour players wishing to participate in this tournament must complete their approval applications by the 25th. Garrigus will appear at the Zurich Classic, a PGA Tour event starting on the 22nd, as a sponsor invitee. When asked about his participation in the SGL, he replied, "I am grateful to be able to participate in the Zurich Classic" and avoided answering, saying he wants to focus on performing well in the tournament.

Garrigus was the driving distance leader in 2010. He won one PGA Tour event at the 2010 Children's Miracle Network Classic. In 2019, he was suspended for three months after marijuana was detected in a doping test. The SGL offers a total prize money of $25 million and holds a 54-hole stroke play without a cut-off. The winner's prize is $4 million. Greg Norman (Australia), who is leading the SGL, is confident about the success of the new tour.
