Despite a 10.6% decline in total European sales compared to last year, Hyundai Motor Group rises 21.3%
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] Hyundai Motor and Kia posted first-quarter sales results in the European market that grew by about 20%, ranking third among all complete car groups. This is a valuable achievement considering the ongoing shortage of automotive semiconductors.
According to data compiled by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association on the 20th, Hyundai Motor and Kia sold 269,350 units in Europe from January to March this year. This represents a 21.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
Hyundai Motor sold 124,128 units, up 14.7%, while Kia sold 145,222 units, up 27.6%. Considering that the overall sales volume in the European market in the first quarter (2,753,256 units) decreased by 10.6% compared to the same period last year due to the automotive semiconductor shortage, these are solid results.
By complete car group, Volkswagen took first place with a 23.8% market share, and Stellantis ranked second with 19.0%. Hyundai Motor and Kia recorded a 9.8% market share, up 2.6 percentage points from 7.2% in the first quarter of last year, securing third place.
