Ministry of Foreign Affairs Expresses Deep Concern Over Israel-Palestine Violence
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The government has expressed deep concern over the recent outbreak of violence resulting in numerous casualties across various locations in Israel and Palestine.
On the 19th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a spokesperson's comment, "We are particularly concerned about the violent incidents that occurred at Haram al-Sharif (also known as the Temple Mount). We urge all parties to refrain from actions that escalate tensions." It added, "The government reaffirms our position that the status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem must be respected."
Recently, the overlap of Ramadan, the Islamic fasting month, and Passover, the major Jewish holiday, has led to continued armed clashes between Israel and Palestine around East Jerusalem, a sacred site for both religions. On the 18th (local time), after Israel was targeted by rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip in Palestine, it conducted retaliatory airstrikes using fighter jets.
