[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] A group that set up a tent gambling den in a mountain in Jeonnam and held gambling games worth tens of millions of won has been arrested by the police in large numbers.
On the 18th, the Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced that they had arrested A (59), the operator of the gambling den, on charges of opening a gambling den, and booked 42 others including B (52), who helped open the gambling den, and gambling participants without detention.
According to the police, they are suspected of setting up tents in the mountains around Muan, Yeongam, Naju, Jangheung, and Gangjin in Jeonnam from February last year to January this year, and gambling with stakes worth tens of millions of won per game.
They reportedly scouted secluded locations and notified the members they usually managed of the gambling time and place via phone calls or text messages.
Participants replied whether they would join and brought several million won each to the gambling table.
A and others who opened the gambling den collected 10% of the stakes as security fees each time, earning illegal profits worth tens of millions of won.
They also placed security personnel at the entrances of hiking trails to evade police crackdowns.
The police received reports that tents were set up deep in the mountains and that people frequently came and went, leading to an investigation and their arrest.
