President-elect Yoon to Dispatch Korea-Japan Policy Consultation Team on 24th… Team Leader Assemblyman Jeong Jin-seok
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol will dispatch a Korea-Japan Policy Consultation Delegation to Japan following the Korea-US Policy Consultation Delegation.
On the morning of the 17th, Bae Hyun-jin, spokesperson for the president-elect, announced at a briefing held at the Presidential Transition Committee office in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, "We have decided to dispatch a delegation to Japan on the 24th."
The Korea-Japan Policy Consultation Delegation is the second diplomatic envoy dispatched by President-elect Yoon.
Spokesperson Bae stated, "We will dispatch National Assembly Deputy Speaker Jeong Jin-seok as the head of the delegation, and Assemblyman Kim Seok-ki of the Korea-Japan Parliamentary League as the deputy head."
He added, "Seven members will be dispatched, including former head of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy Professor Yoon Deok-min, Presidential Transition Committee foreign and security affairs expert Professor Park Cheol-hee, former Director of Northeast Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador to Singapore Lee Sang-deok, former Blue House diplomatic secretary and former Ambassador to Cambodia Jang Ho-jin, and Woo Jeong-hyeop, research fellow at the Sejong Institute," among others.
Regarding the purpose of the dispatch, Spokesperson Bae said, "It is for policy consultations related to North Korea policy and Korea-Japan relations, as well as trilateral cooperation among Korea, the US, and Japan after President-elect Yoon's inauguration," adding, "They will depart on the 24th and return on the 28th."

He also explained, "The delegation will hold successive meetings with officials from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the administration, the National Diet, business circles, the media, and academia," and "It is expected to have the effect of establishing a foundation for cooperation on North Korea policy and resolving pending issues between Korea and Japan."
