On the 17th (Korean time), at the Hilton Head Harbour Town Golf Links (par 71, 7,121 yards) in South Carolina, USA, during the third day of the PGA Tour RBC Heritage (total prize money $8 million), he shot 4 under par to rise to a tie for 22nd place (6 under par 207). Harold Varner III leads (11 under par 202), with Patrick Cantlay (both USA), Shane Lowry (Ireland), and Erik van Rooyen (South Africa) tied for second place, one stroke behind (10 under par 203).
Starting from a tie for 34th place, 7 strokes behind, Im Sung-jae recorded two eagles, four birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey. He started off well with a 'shot eagle' on the 1st hole, but made a double bogey on the 3rd hole (both par 4) after going in and out of the rough and bunker. He recovered with consecutive birdies on the 5th and 6th holes but lost ground with bogeys on the 7th hole (par 3) and 12th hole (par 4). Struggling to reduce his score, he showed fierce finishing power with a birdie on the 14th hole (par 3), an eagle on the 15th hole (par 5), and a birdie on the 16th hole (par 4).
He relied on powerful drives up to 332 yards, a fairway hit rate of 71.43%, and a green in regulation rate of 77.78%. His putting average per hole was outstanding at 1.57. He is 5 strokes behind the leader and is still in a position to aim for his third PGA Tour win in six months since his victory at the Shriners Children's Open, which was included in the 2021/2022 season last October. Im Sung-jae is on a steep upward trajectory, having finished tied for 8th at last week's 'Masters' major tournament.
