76 People Booked at Late-Night Gangnam Entertainment Venue... Employees Did Not Undergo Health Checkups
All 76 Individuals Charged with Violating Infectious Disease Prevention Laws
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A large number of employees and customers of a nightlife establishment in Gangnam, Seoul, were caught by the police for operating past the restricted business hours late at night.
On the 15th, the Suseo Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked and are investigating a total of 76 people, including one business owner, five male employees, 32 female employees, and 38 customers, on charges of violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act.
They are accused of secretly operating the nightlife establishment past the midnight business restriction, until around 2:50 a.m. that day.
The police responded to a tip-off that the business was operating overnight without observing the business hours. At the scene, about 20 luxury cars were parked, and since the nightlife workers and customers did not leave even after midnight, the police identified the illegal operation and proceeded with the crackdown.
The establishment had created an entrance in the underground parking lot to avoid the crackdown, but the police forcibly opened the entrance and caught all employees and customers present at the scene.
Among them, one business owner and 32 female employees are also planned to be charged for failing to undergo health examinations for the prevention of sexually transmitted infectious diseases.
Nightlife workers are required to renew their health examination certificates every three months. If the health examination certificate is not issued, the business operator is subject to a fine ranging from 200,000 to 1,500,000 KRW based on the number of employees and other criteria. Employees must also pay a fine ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 KRW.
