Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Wins Orders for 8 Vessels Including Container Ships Worth 1.28 Trillion Won
"Increased Demand for Replacement with Eco-Friendly Ships"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Hyundai Heavy Industries Group's Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has secured orders for eight vessels worth a total of 1.2836 trillion KRW.
Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced on the 15th that it signed construction contracts for six container ships and two Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) with shipping companies from Liberia and the Middle East. These vessels are equipped with LNG dual-fuel propulsion engines to comply with the International Maritime Organization's environmental regulations.
The container ships ordered this time are 7,900 TEU class, measuring 272 meters in length, 42.8 meters in width, and 24.8 meters in height. They will be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and are scheduled to be delivered sequentially to the shipowners in the first half of 2025.
The car carriers measure 200 meters in length, 38 meters in width, and 37 meters in height, capable of transporting 7,500 vehicles. They will be constructed at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, and are expected to be delivered in the first half of 2025.

A Korea Shipbuilding official stated, "Along with expectations for an increase in global cargo volume, demand for replacement with eco-friendly vessels is rising," adding, "We will lead the market by building high-quality ships based on our advanced technology in the eco-friendly sector."
