US: "Sung Kim, Special Representative for North Korea, to Visit Korea from 18th to 22nd"
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Seulgina Cho] The U.S. Department of State announced on the 14th (local time) that Sung Kim, the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea and chief negotiator on North Korean nuclear issues, will visit South Korea from the 18th to the 22nd.
The State Department explained that during this visit, Representative Kim is scheduled to discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including the international community's response to North Korea's recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test launch.
During his stay in South Korea, Kim will meet with Noh Kyu-duk, Director General for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as other senior officials. He is expected to meet not only current government officials but also members of the presidential transition committee and other figures from the next administration to coordinate the new government's approach to North Korea.
The State Department described the significance of this visit as "emphasizing the commitment to close cooperation with South Korea on North Korea issues while pursuing the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and progress toward lasting peace."
