Gangwon-do Special Crackdown on Illegal Haerujil by Non-Fishermen During Rainy Season
Targeting Coastal and Village Fisheries Until June
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Gangwon Province East Coast Headquarters will conduct a special crackdown on illegal night diving by non-fishermen in coastal areas and village fishing grounds along the East Coast until June to protect marine flora and fauna and manage resources.
According to the East Coast Headquarters on the 13th, recently, indiscriminate night diving by non-fishermen in village fishing grounds has led to excessive harvesting of various marine products such as octopus and shellfish, causing frequent conflicts between fishermen and night diving leisure participants.
Accordingly, to resolve disputes between fishermen and non-fishermen, the East Coast Headquarters held meetings with related agencies last year, proposed amendments to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries regulations, and conducted on-site consultations.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is currently conducting a survey on the actual conditions of village fisheries and a study on system improvements, and plans to revise related laws after the completion of the study.
