Abnormal Summer Climate Every Year Including Monsoon and Heatwaves
Growing Need for High-Quality Smart Farm Vegetables Unaffected by Season or Location

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Emart will significantly expand the operation of 'smart farm vegetables' that are unaffected by climate and seasons this year.
Emart announced on the 13th that from the 14th to the 20th, it will introduce a total of eight types of smart farm vegetables including Romaine, Mini Romaine, Sweet Romaine, Caipira, Butterhead, Frillice, Paggelo, and Batavia, and hold a launch discount event. During the event period, customers can purchase these items with a 20% discount when buying one, and a 40% discount when buying two.
Emart is expanding smart farm vegetables to stably secure vegetable supplies that have become unstable due to frequent abnormal weather recently. Smart farm vegetables are plants grown indoors rather than outside by controlling internal air circulation, temperature, and humidity. By utilizing smart farm technology, the indoor environment can be controlled to produce high-quality vegetables uniformly throughout the year regardless of season or location.
Smart farm vegetables can overcome recurring seasonal and climate issues every year. Last summer, a rapid heatwave caused an emergency in agricultural product supply. Although the situation was different from 2020, when there was an unusually heavy rainfall, vegetable prices rose significantly in both summers.
The eight types of smart farm vegetables introduced this time are 'European lettuce varieties,' which are crops vulnerable to heatwaves and cold. These vegetables are hard to find in summer and winter due to temperature changes, but Emart explained that through smart farms, they can offer high-quality lettuce varieties to customers regardless of climate.
Emart partnered with the smart farm company 'N.thing' to build a smart farm next to the Emart Fresh Center in Icheon-si, Gyeonggi Province. With the smart farm located next to Emart's logistics center, the logistics time for smart farm crops is greatly reduced, and the company expects customers will be able to enjoy fresher products.

Last year, Emart collaborated with 'N.thing' to introduce smart farm crops called 'vegetables with living roots.' Romaine, Butterhead, and Batavia sold more than 80,000 units at eight Emart stores throughout the year, successfully establishing themselves in the market.
