The Cheonan Branch of Daejeon District Court (Judge Kim Wonmok) announced on the 11th that Mr. A, who was indicted for violating the Animal Protection Act, was sentenced to a fine of 3 million won.
Mr. A was indicted for killing a pet dog of the Mini Yorkshire Terrier breed at his home in Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungnam Province, at around 1:20 p.m. on March 6 last year.
While taking a nap, Mr. A got angry because the dog defecated and urinated on his side and pushed it hard. The dog hit its head on the table leg and eventually died.
The prosecution filed a summary indictment against Mr. A and issued a summary order for a fine of 3 million won, but Mr. A appealed and requested a formal trial.
However, Judge Kim ruled, "Considering all sentencing factors revealed through the trial, the amount of the fine in the summary order is appropriate."
