Gyeonggi-do Achieves Major Success with Community-Based COVID-19 'Management Model'... Improvements in Bed Allocation and More
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province's 'Community-Based COVID-19 Management Model' (Anseong Model), conducted over two months in the Anseong area, has significantly improved patient management efficiency by reducing the time required for bed allocation to one hour.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 11th, the province operated the Anseong Model from January 24 to March 20 in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Anseong City, and Gyeonggi Medical Center Anseong Hospital to prepare for a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The core of the Anseong Model is that when frontline public health centers identify confirmed cases and notify Gyeonggi Medical Center Anseong Hospital, the hospital immediately provides treatment (both face-to-face and non-face-to-face) considering the local community situation without the complex communication process through the central government (Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters), and decides on home treatment or hospitalization based on severity.
During the operation period of the Anseong Model, there were 31,076 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Anseong area, of which 5,855 were classified as intensive management groups, including 5,540 home treatment patients, 161 hospitalized patients, and 154 nursing facility subjects.
Among them, the average length of stay for the 161 hospitalized patients was 4 days, and the average time required for hospitalization was recorded as 1 hour and 3 minutes. Fifty-four percent (87 patients) of all hospitalized patients were admitted within one hour after the hospitalization decision.
Considering that in other regions, the administrative procedures involving patient registration by city/county/district, case investigation confirmation, and bed request reception through the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters take about a day to allocate beds, the time required for bed allocation has been significantly shortened.
Additionally, among the 5,540 home treatment patients, 1,802 received non-face-to-face treatment (1,265 prescriptions issued, 64 Paxlovid prescriptions, etc.), and 307 received face-to-face treatment (289 radiological examinations, 182 blood tests, 37 Paxlovid prescriptions, etc.).

Park Geon-hee, head of the Infectious Disease Management Support Group of the province, said, "The Anseong Model is meaningful in that it demonstrated the effectiveness of the community management system amid the explosive increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases due to the Omicron variant wave," adding, "It is a case that shows the importance of networking among community health care institutions and building regional governance."
