Defense Minister Nominee Lee Jong-seop Begins Preparing for Confirmation Hearing Starting on the 11th
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Retired Major General Lee Jong-seop, nominated as the first Minister of National Defense candidate by President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, is beginning preparations for the National Assembly confirmation hearing.
According to military officials on the 11th, the candidate is expected to make his first appearance at around 2 p.m. at the National Defense Convention candidate office in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, where he will share his thoughts on the nomination and future plans with reporters.
Currently serving as a member of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee of the Presidential Transition Committee, the candidate is expected to shuttle between the transition committee office and the candidate office for the time being.
The Ministry of National Defense has formed a task force led by Planning and Management Officer Yoo Gyun-hye to begin preparations for the confirmation hearing.

Regarding this, Defense Ministry spokesperson Boo Seung-chan stated at the regular briefing that the Ministry will provide administrative support such as “preparing the confirmation hearing request, reporting on the current status of the Ministry of National Defense, and drafting key defense operation plans” in response to the candidate’s nomination. He added, “Ultimately, support will be provided through the confirmation hearing process.”
