[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] Lee Min-jun, a preliminary candidate for mayor of Naju from the Democratic Party of Korea, announced that he held the opening ceremony of his campaign office at 2 p.m. on the 8th in Bitgaram-dong, Innovation City.
The opening ceremony was attended by National Assembly members Shin Jeong-hoon and Lee Gae-ho, former National Assembly member Bae Ki-woon, as well as guests and supporters, adding luster to the event.
Candidate Lee Min-jun said, “Thirty years with the Democratic Party and 20 years of local politics with the citizens of Naju have been valuable times that helped me grow,” adding, “In particular, serving three terms as a provincial councilor and as vice chairman of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council gave me the experience and capabilities necessary for a leader.”
He continued, “Now, leaving behind the past eight years that only brought disappointment to the citizens, I intend to take the first step toward new development for Naju,” and expressed his thoughts at the opening ceremony, saying, “Please entrust the future of Naju to a prepared mayor who will shine Naju.”
At a press conference on March 23, he promised ▲ focused fostering of new energy industries, ▲ establishment of a rural-urban convergence city where new downtown, old downtown, and rural areas develop together, ▲ promotion of Yeongsan River water quality improvement and ecosystem restoration projects, ▲ realization of a millennium cultural tourism city, ▲ fostering smart agriculture and the sixth industry, and ▲ strengthening regional competitiveness through investment in educational infrastructure.
Last March, the preliminary candidate also held a picket protest at the National Assembly and the People Power Party headquarters to support the passage of the Korea Energy University Act. He has been active as a representative provincial councilor advocating for Naju citizens by proposing government petitions to resolve issues such as the SRF combined heat and power plant and the closure of the Sanpo-myeon Air Force emergency runway.
Meanwhile, candidate Lee is a three-term provincial councilor who served in the 7th, 10th, and 11th Jeollanam-do Provincial Councils. He enacted the “Jeollanam-do Energy Valley Creation Support Ordinance” and secured 2.5 billion KRW in local-related budgets, including small-scale development project funds, over the past four years.
