[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] As the domestic Omicron wave continues to decline, more than 160,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide by 6 p.m. on the 7th.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on this day, 160,827 people across 17 cities and provinces were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is 17,760 fewer than the 178,587 cases recorded during the same time frame the previous day. Compared to 160,841 cases recorded at the same time one week ago on the 31st of last month, the number decreased by 60,014, and compared to 269,628 cases two weeks ago on the 24th of last month, it decreased by 108,801.
After recording 135,433 cases by 6 p.m. on February 24, the daily cases fluctuated between 200,000 and 300,000 every Thursday, but have dropped back to the 100,000 range after six weeks. Since there is still time until midnight when the daily count closes, the number of new cases announced on the 8th is expected to be higher than this.
As of 6 p.m. on this day, 76,523 new cases (47.6%) were reported in the metropolitan area, and 84,304 new cases (52.4%) were reported in non-metropolitan areas. By region, Gyeonggi had 35,620 cases, Seoul 31,790, Gyeongnam 10,343, Incheon 9,113, Chungnam 9,100, Gyeongbuk 8,570, Jeonbuk 8,273, Jeonnam 855, Gwangju 7,196, Daegu 7,155, Gangwon 6,023, Busan 5,450, Daejeon 4,331, Ulsan 4,246, Chungbuk 2,966, Jeju 2,099, and Sejong 497.
