Korea Association of City and Provincial Council Chairs Adopts 10 Proposals Including National Policy Recommendation for Farmers and Fishermen's Allowance
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Council of Chairpersons of Provincial and Metropolitan Councils of the Republic of Korea (Chairman Kim In-ho, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council) announced on the 6th that it held the 4th extraordinary meeting at Island Resort in Taean-gun, Chungnam Province, and adopted 10 proposals including a recommendation for the national policy on the Farmers and Fishermen Allowance.
The extraordinary meeting was held to deliver 10 government proposals necessary for improving residents' convenience and to coordinate joint responses from the 17 metropolitan and provincial councils.
The attendees received reports on the submission of a policy proposal on local council development to the 20th Presidential Transition Committee on the 31st of last month and the response to the government proposals from the 7th extraordinary meeting held on November 25 last year, and then adopted the government proposals.
The main adopted proposals include ▲a recommendation for the national policy on the Farmers and Fishermen Allowance ▲a recommendation urging the enactment of a special law on compensation, damage prevention, and restoration for residents in the wildfire areas of Uljin and Samcheok ▲a recommendation urging the revision of the Act on Noise Prevention and Damage Compensation for Military Airfields and Shooting Ranges, among others.

Chairman Kim In-ho of the council said, “Over the past two years, the Council of Chairpersons of Provincial and Metropolitan Councils of the Republic of Korea has made every effort to ensure that 191 proposals adopted after listening to the opinions of the people are reflected in national policies,” and added, “We ask for your continued interest so that the council and local councils can be a think tank for local autonomy and democracy and an unstoppable driving force for local governments.”
