Bereaved Family of Delivery Agency Owner Who Committed Suicide Due to Harassment "Strict Law Enforcement Needed"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] As union members accused of harassing a delivery agency owner in his 40s, Mr. A, who operated a delivery agency in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province last year and drove him to take his own life, face the risk of detention, the bereaved family has demanded strict law enforcement.
Mr. A's family released a statement on the 7th, saying, "We have spent half a year in despair, wondering how to soothe the unjust restless spirit of the deceased, and now it feels like the judicial authorities are finally beginning to untie the first knot."
They continued, "We were shocked to see the Delivery Workers' Union submit a petition to the court on behalf of the suspects, stating that 'there were rough and reckless parts in union activities, but harassment itself was not the purpose.' It breaks our hearts that the suspects, who made the deceased feel like every day was hell and led him to leave this world, are still making excuses to the end."
Additionally, the family stated, "The Delivery Workers' Union is avoiding responsibility by claiming that the cause of the deceased's death lies not with the suspects but by talking about 'agency power abuse' and 'terrible working conditions.' It is something they could never say if they were truly reflecting on themselves that those who collectively harassed the deceased are now claiming to have been abused themselves."
Finally, the family appealed, "President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol said several times during the election campaign that he would strictly punish illegal acts by militant unions. We earnestly ask that strict law enforcement be carried out against the suspects' illegal acts so that the death of the deceased will not be in vain."

Meanwhile, Mr. A, the delivery agency owner in Gimpo, took his own life in August last year. In September last year, Mr. A's family filed a complaint accusing 13 union members, including Mr. B of the National Delivery Workers' Union Gimpo branch, of harassment, and the police applied for arrest warrants for four of the accused who were suspected of serious charges.
