Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Crack Down on Illegal Activities of Children's Symbolic Food Products
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will crack down on illegal activities related to children's favorite food products ahead of Children's Day on May 5th next month.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 7th that from the 18th to the 29th of this month, they will conduct intensive investigations targeting manufacturers and processors of children's favorite food products within the province for illegal activities such as selling expired products.
The investigation targets 360 companies that manufacture and process snacks and candies, bread, chocolates, fish sausage, beverages (fruit and vegetable juices, fruit and vegetable drinks, carbonated drinks, probiotic drinks, and mixed drinks), ready-to-eat foods such as gimbap, hamburgers, sandwiches, noodles (cup noodles), and ice cream products frequently consumed by children.
The investigation will cover ▲ violations of preservation standards ▲ use of expired products ▲ failure to prepare documents related to production and operations, including raw material transaction records ▲ false labeling of origin ▲ non-compliance with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards.

Kim Min-kyung, head of the Civil Special Judicial Police in the province, emphasized, "Since December 2021, all manufacturers and processors of children's favorite food products such as snacks and candies are subject to mandatory application of HACCP. We will prevent factors that could harm food safety in advance and take strong measures according to relevant laws if illegal activities are discovered."
