Gangwon-do to Raise Taxi Base Fare from 25th... Mid-size 3,800 Won
Medium taxis up 11.22%, large (model)·small·compact taxis up 13.16%
Current late-night·outside time surcharge·call fee (per use) frozen at 1000 won
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The basic taxi fare in Gangwon Province will increase for the first time in about three years since the last fare adjustment in 2019.
On the 5th, the province announced, "Following the Consumer Policy Committee meeting to review the taxi fare and rate adjustment plan, it was decided to raise taxi fares."
The province will raise the basic fare for standard taxis (up to 2km) from the current 3,300 won to 3,800 won, an increase of 500 won, and adjust the distance fare (100 won per 133m after 2km) and time fare (100 won per 33 seconds when driving below 15 km/h).
Nighttime and outside zone surcharges, as well as the call charge (1,000 won per use), will remain unchanged.
To minimize the burden on the public economy caused by transportation cost adjustments and COVID-19, the province decided to increase fares by 11.22% for standard taxis compared to current transportation costs, and by 13.16% for large (deluxe), small, and compact taxis.
Accordingly, once the province notifies cities and counties of the taxi fare and rate decisions, each city and county will implement the changes considering local conditions within the adjusted rate range, conduct prior public notice for residents, and change meters, with the new fares scheduled to take effect from the 25th.
