Yun Hojung: "Transition Committee, a runaway car without brakes... Arrogant overreach"
"Song Young-gil's Candidacy Is a Matter of His Own Decision"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 5th, Yoon Ho-jung, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on criticisms such as "occupying army" and "subject to arrest investigation" directed at President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's Presidential Transition Committee, saying, "It feels like a runaway car without a brake system; although he has not even taken office yet, the interference in personnel matters is extremely severe," and added, "I made such remarks because they are almost arrogantly overstepping their authority."
On the same day, Chairman Yoon appeared on YTN Radio's 'News King with Park Ji-hoon' in the morning and said, "They are holding meetings with media organizations such as the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Agency, the four general programming channels, SBS, and EBS, which are not subjects of the transition committee's work report, but it is unknown what was discussed behind closed doors. I think there is a problem as they seem to be starting to tame the media first, so I brought this up."
Regarding prosecutorial reform, he predicted that it would be difficult to immediately adopt it as the party's official stance at the parliamentary meeting held in the afternoon.
Chairman Yoon explained, "So far, expert lawmakers have mainly debated through the Judiciary Committee and the Media Reform Special Committee. Therefore, we plan to have a time to report the summarized results of discussions on prosecutorial reform and media reform to the parliamentary meeting. It will be difficult to make an immediate party decision today or to proceed that far. There needs to be extensive discussion among the lawmakers."
Regarding the growing opposition within the party to former leader Song Young-gil's candidacy for Seoul mayor, he said, "The decision to run is a personal matter," and added, "From the party leadership's perspective, we not only provide fair opportunities to many candidates who want to run but also have the responsibility to properly manage the process so that we can nominate a candidate who can win in this local election. We must focus on that task first."

On the primary election rules concerning Kim Dong-yeon, leader of the New Wave party, who declared his candidacy for Gyeonggi Province governor, he said, "Basically, we have a 50-50 rule between (party members with voting rights) and (general public). Looking at recent opinion polls and such, it seems that the outcome does not change depending on how the primary system rules are decided." He added, "I think the primary can be conducted under our party's system."
