SKT "10 Years of Mobile Electronic Billing, Achieved the Effect of Planting 77,000 Trees"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] SKT announced on the 5th that it has achieved the effect of planting approximately 77,000 trees over the past 10 years through its mobile electronic billing service, ‘Billater’.
To mark Arbor Day, SK Telecom revealed the environmental conservation achievements of ‘Billater’ and plans to strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) 2.0 management by expanding the number of customers using electronic billing.
Since launching the ‘Billater’ service in April 2012, SKT has reduced paper consumption equivalent to about 77,000 trees over 10 years through the digitization of bills, which is more than the number of street trees (about 63,000) in the three Gangnam districts of Seoul.
‘Billater’ not only reduces paper usage but also plays a role in lowering carbon dioxide emissions and environmental pollution caused by the production and transportation of paper bills.
Currently, 12.5 million customers use ‘Billater’, accounting for about half of SKT’s customer base. SKT expects that as the number of ‘Billater’ users increases, the effects of reducing paper consumption and carbon emissions will also grow.
To encourage the transition to electronic billing through ‘Billater’, SKT will provide ‘Happiness Credit’ donation points to customers who apply for ‘Billater’ starting from the 5th.
‘Happiness Credit’ is a program where SKT donates the same amount as the accumulated points to social contribution projects. SKT plans to provide 500 ‘Happiness Credits’ per new electronic billing application for credit cards, local taxes, city gas, and other bills, excluding SK Telecom and SK Broadband communication bills.
‘Billater’ users can receive electronic bills for ▲ SK Telecom and SK Broadband communication bills ▲ credit card statements from Hana Card, KB Kookmin Card, Samsung Card, Woori Card, etc. ▲ bills from eight city gas companies ▲ local taxes from public institutions ▲ and National Tax Service cash receipt details.
Electronic bills for credit cards, local taxes, and others received through ‘Billater’ are provided free of charge, so customers are not billed separately, which is an advantage.
