OptBio and KIST Gangneung Natural Products Research Institute Sign Technology Transfer Agreement for Pibburipul Skin Aging Improvement
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Optbio announced on the 1st that it held a research cooperation and technology transfer signing ceremony with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) Gangneung Natural Products Research Center for ‘functional cosmetics and quasi-drug candidate substances for improving skin aging and promoting skin regeneration.’
Optbio is a company that develops and manufactures functional cosmetics and health functional food ingredients using natural functional materials. So far, it has quantified high-quality natural extracts from domestic native plants and researched and manufactured reliable raw materials in strict production environments, as well as high-purity natural raw materials suitable for the skin.
Dr. Noh Joo-won’s team at the KIST Smart Farm Convergence Research Center studied Spiraea salicifolia, which has been used since the era of Genghis Khan in Mongolia for wound healing and skin regeneration. Their research identified related genes and mechanisms of action such as keratinocyte migration, collagen synthesis, and wrinkle-inducing enzyme inhibition. Recently, they also revealed the hair growth-promoting effects of Spiraea salicifolia extract and secured multiple domestic and international patents related to skin aging improvement technology using Spiraea salicifolia.
Dr. Noh Joo-won said, “As global interest in anti-aging and well-being increases, the technology transfer of this natural material for improving skin aging is expected to create high added value not only in Korea but also in the global cosmeceutical market.”
