[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kang Suhoon, former spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea's Gwangju Metropolitan City Party, officially announced his candidacy for the Gwangju Metropolitan City Council Seo-gu District 1 seat in the nationwide local elections on June 1.
On the 31st, former spokesperson Kang stated, "I will lead the change and innovation of the Democratic Party," adding, "This local election is the last chance to break away from the old politics of the Democratic Party of Korea and transform into new politics."
He continued, "With the dawn of the Autonomy Decentralization 2.0 era, a major shift has begun from local governments and heads to residents and local councils," emphasizing, "Kang Suhoon, who has the experience and capability to create a history of innovation in various local sites for the role and enhanced status of local councils, is needed."
He further said, "The new Gwangju must present agendas and now become a city that leads and pioneers change," stressing, "This is the mission left to us by the May of that time, which made the city a leader in democracy."
Additionally, he added, "From now on, I, Kang Suhoon, with youth and vision, skills and experience, will lead Gwangju's new leap and pleasant change in the era of autonomy decentralization transformation."
Former spokesperson Kang will hold the opening ceremony of the 'Kangpoong Camp' at 11 a.m. on April 2 at the second floor election office of the High Mobile Building in Nongsong-dong. Starting with the opening ceremony, he plans to begin election campaigns to create a pleasant change for Gwangju.

Meanwhile, former spokesperson Kang Suhoon has served as the head of the Gwangju General Election Headquarters for presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung, policy director of the Democratic Party of Korea's Gwangju Metropolitan City Party, special member for public communication at the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development under President Moon Jae-in, and currently serves as chairman of the Startup Support Network corporation.
