Samsung TV's Quiet Revolution 'CamTech'... A TV That Knows Me Better Than I Know Myself Is Coming
Samsung Electronics' New TV Neo QLED 8K Showcasing Innovative Technologies
Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee: "We Must Provide Personalized Services Optimized for Each User"
[Asia Economy Reporters Sunmi Park and Jinho Kim] On the morning of the 31st, as soon as I entered the entrance of the ‘Delight Exhibition Hall’ located in the Samsung Electronics building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, this year’s new TV model, the ‘Neo QLED 8K,’ immediately captured my eyes and ears. Instantly, the phrase ‘the ultimate in picture quality,’ which sums up Samsung Electronics’ TV innovation technology, came to mind.
The experience zone was set to a dark environment, which further highlighted the clarity of the Quantum Mini LED equipped in the ‘Neo QLED 8K.’ It was immediately apparent that the light source processing level of the Quantum Mini LED had been significantly improved. The brightness of the light was adjusted to 16,384 levels, four times higher than the previous 4,096 levels (12-bit → 14-bit), enabling more precise color expression.
In particular, the scenes of a dog running and playing or a stag beetle clinging to a tree displayed on the screen created an illusion as if one were actually seeing the objects in nature with their own eyes. This immersive experience was possible because the Neo Quantum Processor embedded in the ‘Neo QLED 8K’ is equipped with 20 artificial intelligence neural networks that analyze each scene, enhancing the depth and vividness of the video.
The ‘Contrast Enhancement+’ technology automatically identifies subjects contrasting with the background to improve picture quality and increase depth, while the ‘Ultra-Fine Light Control’ technology analyzes the shapes and surfaces of objects in the video to precisely express bright and dark areas. The brightness and color temperature automatically adjust according to the room’s lighting, and with almost no light reflection, it delivers clear picture quality even in bright environments. Additionally, by applying ‘Dolby Atmos,’ upward-facing speakers installed on top of the TV create surround sound above the user’s head following the movement of objects on the screen, adding auditory enjoyment.
The lifestyle TVs focused on enhancing comfortable viewing experiences (2022 models The Frame, The Serif, The Sero) also caught attention. All lifestyle TVs feature a ‘Matte Display’ that reduces light reflection, allowing viewers to enjoy clear picture quality even under bright lighting or midday sun.
Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee Emphasizes User Experience Innovation... "Calm Tech That Adjusts Automatically Is Needed"
Samsung Electronics has launched a large number of new products, including the ‘2022 Neo QLED 8K,’ to maintain its position as the global No. 1 TV brand for 17 consecutive years.
It is regarded as an ambitious work aiming to achieve a super-gap over competitors amid growing public interest in premium TVs. Notably, this new product embodies a new user experience-centered vision called ‘Calm Tech,’ proposed by Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee. Calm Tech refers to a type of automatic convenience technology that provides various convenient services without users being consciously aware of them.
At the previously held online event ‘Unbox and Discover 2022,’ Vice Chairman Han presented Samsung Electronics’ new vision centered on user experience and emphasized, “Users should not have to learn new products or technologies; the device should automatically perform necessary functions and provide personalized, optimized services without requiring special attention from the user.”
Accordingly, the new TVs have enhanced smart hub functions that allow users to view content such as Media, Magic Screen, and Gaming Hub at a glance. ‘Media’ integrates various entertainment services, including Samsung TV Plus with over 190 free channels, and recommends optimal content by analyzing user preferences.
‘Magic Screen’ offers background images tailored to the surrounding environment or suggests artworks to enhance home interior effects. The ‘Gaming Hub’ provides streaming services to enjoy desired games and a discovery feature to find the latest games, allowing users to play games without separate downloads or storage.
Samsung TVs also have SmartThings built-in, enabling easy connection, monitoring, and control of various home devices. Samsung Electronics has strengthened ‘#Team Samsung’ activities, which connect various devices based on SmartThings, diagnose issues, and provide optimal solutions. Additionally, Samsung actively participates in the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA), formed by over 200 companies worldwide to expand the smart home ecosystem.
