[Public Officials' Asset Disclosure] Unique Assets Catch Attention Including Diamond, Cello, and Brazilian Government Bonds
Property Loss Due to Damage of Western Painting Worth 6 Million Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Reviewing the regular property change reports of National Assembly members announced on the 31st by the Public Officials Ethics Committee of the National Assembly reveals some unusual assets.
In terms of jewelry, the spouse of Kang Byung-won, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, reported a 1-carat diamond valued at 10 million KRW, while the spouse of Park Jin from the People Power Party reported two diamond rings valued at 10 million KRW and 5 million KRW respectively.
Regarding musical instruments, the spouse of Kwon Young-se, a People Power Party member, owns three harps totaling 70 million KRW, Park Jin’s spouse owns a violin worth 70 million KRW, and Bae Jun-young, also from the People Power Party, has a cello valued at 15 million KRW registered under his eldest daughter’s name.
There were also members who own paintings. Seo Jeong-sook of the People Power Party holds three oil paintings worth a total of 37 million KRW and a print valued at 6 million KRW. A Western painting worth 6 million KRW was damaged, resulting in a decrease in assets. Yang Kyung-sook of the Democratic Party also disclosed ownership of a white porcelain piece worth 5 million KRW, a pine tree painting worth 5 million KRW, and a landscape painting valued at 30 million KRW. All are by unknown artists. Park Chan-dae of the Democratic Party owns a horse painting worth 12 million KRW by artist Heo Jin.
Brazilian government bonds were held by Yoon Joon-byung and Ahn Kyu-baek of the Democratic Party and the spouse of Chu Kyung-ho from the People Power Party. The value of the Brazilian bonds held by Yoon and Ahn decreased, but the bonds held by Chu’s spouse increased by 901,000 KRW compared to before.
