Gyeongbuk Province Urges Japan Not to Teach 'Distorted History' to Future Generations
Governor Lee Cheol-woo Strongly Condemns Japan's Textbook Dokdo Distortion Verification Results Announcement
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongsangbuk-do strongly condemned the Japanese government on the 29th for passing high school textbooks that distort historical facts based on a Japan-centered historical perspective and contain unjust claims about Dokdo.
In a statement of condemnation issued that day, Gyeongsangbuk-do demanded immediate correction and apology regarding the absurd content in the high school social studies textbooks used by Japanese high school sophomores and above from 2023, which describe Dokdo, Korean territory, as "Japan's inherent territory," claim "Korea's illegal occupation," and assert that "Korea unilaterally claims it as its territory."
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, once again urged, "The Japanese government should immediately correct the distorted facts in the textbooks so that the future generations can establish a correct historical perspective, and move toward a constructive and future-oriented bilateral relationship."
Furthermore, Gyeongsangbuk-do strongly condemned Shimane Prefecture of Japan for forcibly holding the "Takeshima Day" event last month, which distorted history.
