Korea Railroad to 'Automatically Refund' Compensation for Equipment Failures Such as Air Conditioners
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 29th that compensation payments will be automatically refunded when customer inconvenience occurs due to equipment malfunctions such as air conditioners on trains.
Currently, Korea Railroad operates a compensation system that refunds 25% of the fare for the relevant section if there are inconveniences in train use such as seat non-use due to vehicle breakdowns or equipment malfunctions. In particular, when the cooling device is defective, 50% of the fare can be compensated.
However, until now, passengers had to visit the arrival station's ticket counter in person to apply for compensation for equipment malfunctions, which was inconvenient.
Accordingly, starting next month, Korea Railroad will simplify the compensation refund procedure so that train passengers can receive automatic refunds through payment methods (credit card, simple payment) without visiting the station counter to receive compensation.
However, users who purchased train tickets with cash or mixed cash payments will be able to receive compensation refunds at the station counter within one year from the date of boarding, as before.
Earlier, in August last year, Korea Railroad simplified the train delay compensation refund procedure, increasing the refund rate from 60% to 95%.
