[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City has established a foundation for formulating a comprehensive response strategy encompassing all economic, social, and environmental sectors to promote the transition to a carbon-neutral society by 2045.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Council on the 29th, the "Gwangju Metropolitan City Climate Crisis Response Basic Ordinance," which was proposed by Councilor Kim Gwangran as the main sponsor, passed the Environment and Welfare Committee review at the 305th extraordinary session on the same day.
The ordinance was enacted to provide institutional support for the implementation of the transition process and adaptation measures toward a carbon-neutral society.
Councilor Kim stated, "Over the past two years, Gwangju has made more efforts than any other metropolitan local government nationwide to become an energy self-sufficient city," adding, "The ordinance was enacted considering various special characteristics of Gwangju."
The ordinance includes delegated matters and regulations on their implementation following the enactment of the Carbon Neutrality Basic Act, and particularly focuses on establishing a strengthened institutional foundation to achieve carbon neutrality five years earlier than the national target by stipulating implementation matters across all sectors for climate crisis response.
