Where Are the '12 Flower Path Sections' Along Gyeonggi Old Road?
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has selected and announced 12 flower clusters along the representative historical and cultural exploration routes in the province, 'Gyeonggi Old Road,' as 'Beautiful Flower Paths' to welcome the spring season.
The 12 locations announced by the province include 3 sections of Pyeonghae-gil, 4 sections of Yeongnam-gil, 1 section of Gyeongheung-gil, and 4 sections of Samnam-gil.
According to the province, starting with forsythia around Mangusan on Pyeonghae-gil at the end of March, cherry blossoms around Tancheon on Yeongnam-gil and Seohocheon on Samnam-gil in early to mid-April, roses at Jukjusanseong on Yeongnam-gil in June to July, and lotus flowers at the ecological park on Pyeonghae-gil from July to August will follow.
The province and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation’s Gyeonggi Old Road Center are also conducting the 'Gyeonggi Old Road Flower Path Photo Contest' for visitors walking the Gyeonggi Old Road.
Participants can take photos of the beautiful flowers encountered while walking the Gyeonggi Old Road, post them on social networking services (SNS), and join the event. Detailed information can be found on the Gyeonggi Old Road website (www.ggcr.kr).
Using the 'Gyeonggi Old Road' smartphone app makes it convenient to find flower path sections. The app provides maps and route guidance for the old road, and also offers audio explanations about major points and cultural heritage sites. If the goal is to complete the entire route, users can receive completion certification through the location information (GPS) function.
Gyeonggi Old Road is a historical and cultural exploration route created based on the Six Major Roads (Yukdaero) from the Dorogo (Road Study) written by Shin Gyeong-jun, a practical scholar of the Joseon Dynasty. Since 2013, five routes have been developed: Samnam-gil (Gwacheon to Pyeongtaek, 99.6 km), Uiju-gil (Goyang to Paju, 56.4 km), Yeongnam-gil (Seongnam to Icheon, 116 km), Pyeonghae-gil (Guri to Yangpyeong, 125 km), and Gyeongheung-gil (Uijeongbu to Pocheon, 89.2 km). The final route of the six major Gyeonggi Old Roads, Ganghwa-gil, is scheduled to open in September.
