The Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 8 (Presiding Judge Cha Juhee) announced on the 28th that it sentenced Mr. A (29), who was indicted on fraud charges, to 1 year and 4 months in prison.
It was investigated that Mr. A extorted approximately 11 million KRW from Ms. B (27), whom he met through the dating app, 26 times from September to November 2020.
Mr. A deceived Ms. B by pretending to be a "manager at a company run by his father" and tricked her into thinking they would date, then borrowed money under false pretenses. He also continuously sent messages saying he wanted to eat food and received gifticons and other valuables.
Ms. B reportedly canceled her subscription savings and even took out loans to lend money to Mr. A during this process.
It was also revealed that Mr. A had a common-law wife and children. The job as a company manager was not true, and the prosecution stated that he had no real intention of dating the victim.
