Gwangyang-si Announces Detailed Job Creation Plan for 2022
Achieving 69.8% Employment Rate This Year, Targeting Creation of Over 12,000 Jobs
[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Gwangyang City, Jeonnam, announced the ‘2022 Detailed Plan for Job Measures’ in accordance with the ‘Employment Basic Act’ regional job target disclosure system.
This year, Gwangyang City aims to achieve an employment rate of 69.8% and create 12,696 jobs by promoting job projects that create direct jobs in the public sector, support job seekers and employers, train skilled personnel, foster strategic industries, and attract investment to generate job creation momentum.
Despite the COVID-19 situation last year, administrative efforts focused on job creation resulted in an employment rate of 69.3%, exceeding the target by 0.3 percentage points. The city also won the ‘2021 National Local Government Job Evaluation’ grand prize, setting a unique record among Jeonnam local governments by winning for seven consecutive years since 2015.
The four core strategies to achieve the 2022 job targets are ▲creation of direct jobs supported by financial resources ▲activation of youth jobs responding to regional crises ▲training of skilled personnel and support for employment retention services ▲preemptive response to future industries through Gwangyang-customized strategies. A budget of 189.8 billion KRW will be invested to implement 179 detailed projects.
In particular, through active and aggressive investment attraction activities, expansions of POSCO Chemical Co., Ltd.’s secondary battery material cathode manufacturing plants phases 3 and 4, establishment of P&OChemical Co., Ltd.’s hydrogen peroxide production plant, and construction of POSCO Co., Ltd.’s secondary battery recycling and lithium plants are actively underway, expected to revitalize the local economy and increase employment by about 1,800 people.
Park Jongtae, Director of the Investment and Job Division, said, “We will do our best to become the top job-centered city in Jeonnam through regionally tailored job policies and active investment attraction in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era.”
