Jeongeup-si Invests 6.883 Billion KRW to Support Eco-Friendly School Meals

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 28th that it will provide 6.883 billion KRW this year to support high-quality school meals for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students in the region.

This amount is approximately 220 million KRW more than last year.

The support targets 10,438 students across 98 schools, including public kindergartens, elementary, middle, high schools, and special schools in the area.

Details include free meals worth 5.956 billion KRW (1.4 billion KRW from provincial funds, 1.578 billion KRW from city funds, and 2.978 billion KRW from the education office), eco-friendly agricultural product school meals worth 581 million KRW (186 million KRW from provincial funds, 209 million KRW from city funds, and 186 million KRW from the education office), and 346 million KRW from the city’s own budget.

In particular, this year the city secured additional budget to expand the use of eco-friendly agricultural products in school meals by more than 80%, aiming to support the healthy growth of students.

The city supplies 20 types of excellent eco-friendly agricultural products produced by local farms and 68 processed items produced by local processing companies directly to schools in the region through the Eco-friendly School Meal Support Center.

Through this, it is expected to greatly contribute not only to increasing the income of local farms and processing companies but also to improving the health and dietary habits of growing students.

A city official stated, “We will do our best to promote the consumption of excellent eco-friendly agricultural products in the region through support for eco-friendly school meals and provide healthy and fresh food to students.”
