[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City has entered the race to host the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
The city recently held the final report meeting for the APEC Summit hosting service at Songdo Convensia and announced on the 27th that it has officially begun its hosting activities.
The city and the Incheon Tourism Organization have been conducting a service project with Dongduk Women's University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation for about four months since December last year to enhance Incheon's potential as a host city for the world-class MICE event, the APEC Summit, and to develop differentiated hosting strategies from competing cities.
As a result of the service project, Incheon was found to have strengths such as experience in hosting various international events including the 17th Incheon Asian Games in 2014 and the 6th OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) World Forum in 2018, as well as abundant international conference infrastructure including the Songdo International Business District, Incheon International Airport, convention facilities, and luxury hotels.
Based on these service project results, the city will establish detailed strategies differentiated from other cities and provinces and proceed with full-scale hosting activities. With the announcement of the domestic host city scheduled for next year, the city plans to launch a campaign to secure citizens' support first.
