Shinsegae's Chung Yong-jin Receives 3.9 Billion KRW, Hyundai Department Store's Chung Ji-sun Receives 4 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Lee Jae-hyun, chairman of CJ Group, was found to have received the highest compensation among owner-family executives in the distribution industry.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system (DART) on the 26th, Chairman Lee received 9.073 billion KRW from CJ, the holding company. Of this, 3.1 billion KRW was salary and 5.973 billion KRW was bonuses. He also received 8.392 billion KRW from CJ CheilJedang and 4.396 billion KRW from CJ ENM. This represents a 76.6% increase compared to the 12.379 billion KRW he received from these three companies in 2020. Lee’s sister, Lee Mi-kyung, vice chairman of CJ Group, received 4.885 billion KRW from CJ ENM, a 64.1% increase from the previous year. A CJ official stated, "This is due to last year's record-high performance, which led to a significant increase in performance bonuses for most executives."
Next, Shin Dong-bin, chairman of Lotte, received an annual salary of 15 billion KRW last year. Chairman Shin received 3.517 billion KRW from Lotte Holdings. The combined salaries from five affiliates?Lotte Chemical, Lotte Shopping, Lotte Department Store, Lotte Confectionery, and Lotte Chilsung Beverage?total 15.0407 billion KRW. With the disclosure of salaries from Hotel Lotte and Lotte Property & Development, Chairman Shin’s total salary for last year is expected to increase further.
The Shinsaegae Group owner family also reportedly received about 16.4 billion KRW in compensation last year. According to Emart’s business report, Chung Yong-jin, vice chairman of Shinsaegae Group, received a total of 3.891 billion KRW from Emart last year, including a salary of 2.084 billion KRW and bonuses such as holiday bonuses and performance incentives amounting to 1.807 billion KRW. This is an increase of 523 million KRW compared to 3.368 billion KRW in 2020. According to Shinsaegae’s business report, Chung Yoo-kyung, general manager of Shinsaegae, received a total of 3.42 billion KRW from Shinsaegae last year. Lee Myung-hee, chairwoman of Shinsaegae Group, received a total of 4.568 billion KRW, including 1.27 billion KRW from Shinsaegae and 3.298 billion KRW from Emart. Chung Jae-eun, honorary chairperson of Shinsaegae Group, received the same amount.

Jung Ji-sun, chairman of Hyundai Department Store Group, received a total of 3.926 billion KRW last year from Hyundai Department Store, including a salary of 2.95 billion KRW and bonuses of 975 million KRW. Jung’s younger brother, Jung Kyo-sun, vice chairman, received a total of 1.594 billion KRW, including a salary of 1.124 billion KRW and bonuses of 469 million KRW.
