Daewoo Shipbuilding Collaborates with Polar Research Institute and Inha University on Joint Polar Navigation Research

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced on the 25th that it has signed an agreement for joint research on polar navigation using satellites with the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology's Polar Research Institute, Inha University, and Inha Technical College.
The signing ceremony was held on the 24th at the Polar Research Institute in Songdo, Incheon, attended by Park Du-seon, Daewoo Shipbuilding Yard Director, Kang Seong-ho, Director of the Polar Research Institute, Won Hye-wook, Vice President of Inha University, and Seo Tae-beom, President of Inha Technical College, among other officials.
They will form a joint research council and begin technology development based on accumulated experience and research capabilities related to the polar environment. Over the next three years, they plan to cooperate to secure technology related to polar navigation and routes using satellites, laying the foundation for mutual development.
Daewoo Shipbuilding will provide its accumulated technology and know-how based on its experience in constructing and designing polar navigation vessels and marine structures. They will integrate various research results and project achievements from the Polar Research Institute, such as remote sensing technology based on the polar environment. The two schools will share personnel, data, and equipment necessary for joint technology development, participate in research activities, and receive support from industry-academic cooperation groups.
Daewoo Shipbuilding has continuously conducted various research and development related to polar technologies, including successfully building the world's first icebreaking LNG carrier capable of navigating the Arctic Ocean.

Park Du-seon, Daewoo Shipbuilding Yard Director, said, "As this is a collaboration among the country's top specialized institutions in polar research, we will secure world-class polar navigation vessel technology," adding, "We expect this to become a model case of industry-academic-research cooperation for polar research."
