Suwon City to Designate Additional Food Culture Streets
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will designate additional "Food Culture Streets." Representatives of merchant organizations wishing to apply must submit their applications by the 22nd of next month.
On the 25th, Suwon City announced plans to designate additional "Food Culture Streets" in areas where restaurants are densely clustered and meet certain criteria, aiming to revitalize alleyway commercial districts and foster a healthy food culture.
Once designated as a Food Culture Street, support will be provided for installing signboards, improving food culture projects, and promotional activities.
Previously, in November 2020, the city designated five locations as Food Culture Streets: Janganmun Geobuk Market Street, Pajangcheon Matgoeul, Firefly Yeonmu Market Romantic Street, Suwon Geumgok-dong Eoullim Shopping District Food Culture Street, and Hwaseong Haenggung Matchon Street. Additionally, in June last year, Cheoncheon Food Village and Suwon Chicken Street were designated. Currently, there are a total of seven Food Culture Streets in Suwon City.
The city will review documents and conduct on-site investigations of the applicant areas, then hold the "Food Culture Street Deliberation Committee" in May to evaluate criteria such as ▲ clustering of 30 or more restaurants ▲ formation and operation of autonomous organizations ▲ number of restaurants registered with the merchants' association ▲ consent to apply for Food Culture Street designation ▲ agreement on self-funding for project costs ▲ street environment ▲ historical significance of the street ▲ appropriateness of plans to revitalize the Food Culture Street, before designating the Food Culture Street.
