Ministry of Health and Welfare Reports to Transition Committee... Discussion on Lifecycle Customized Care Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] On the 24th, the Social Welfare and Culture Subcommittee of the Presidential Transition Committee received a report from the Ministry of Health and Welfare on measures to strengthen life-cycle tailored care and welfare services.
The Transition Committee stated that it discussed these matters after the Ministry of Health and Welfare's work report concluded that day. The work report was attended by Im Ija, the secretary, transition committee members Ahn Sanghoon, Baek Gyeongran, Kim Dosik, as well as expert and working-level committee members, and planning and coordination subcommittee experts. From the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Director General of the Policy Office and others presented the report.
The Transition Committee explained, "Today's work report proceeded in the order of reviewing the general status and current issues of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and examining the major implementation tasks to be pursued by the new government in relation to the president-elect's pledges."
First, the Transition Committee and the Ministry of Health and Welfare exchanged opinions on measures to strengthen life-cycle tailored care and welfare services covering all ages from children to the elderly. The Ministry of Health and Welfare reported detailed implementation plans including ▲expanding social investment in child-rearing and care ▲an integrated health and welfare elderly care system in preparation for an aging society ▲measures to revitalize social services.
Additionally, measures to promote dense and substantial protection for vulnerable groups were discussed. The Transition Committee stated that they reviewed plans for a virtuous cycle of growth and welfare, such as providing substantial support to disadvantaged groups while creating jobs through the advancement of welfare services.
They also exchanged views on improving conditions for providing essential medical services within local communities. Discussions included how to secure medical personnel in less preferred essential medical fields, how to establish a regionally comprehensive medical provision and utilization system, and ways to induce rational medical use alongside medical coverage.
The leap toward becoming a powerhouse in vaccines and therapeutics was also a key agenda. The Transition Committee and the Ministry of Health and Welfare shared opinions on building an integrated bio-health industry ecosystem connecting industry, technology, and medicine, fostering digital healthcare, and leading vaccine and therapeutic development strategies.
