Wanju-gun Declares WHO Age-Friendly City Certification
Promotion of 8 Major Areas and 69 Detailed Projects Over the Next 3 Years
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Wanju-gun held a certification proclamation ceremony for the Age-Friendly City on the 24th in front of the Senior Playground Masil located in Saengganggol Park, Bongdong-eup.
The event was held with the attendance of about 50 people, including Park Seong-il, the head of Wanju-gun, Kim Jae-cheon, the chairman of Wanju-gun council, council members, heads of related organizations, senior citizens' association members, and elderly residents.
An "Age-Friendly City" refers to a city where policies, infrastructure, and services are established so that elderly people can live safely and healthily, ultimately meaning a city where all generations, including the elderly, can live well together.
Wanju-gun received certification from the World Health Organization (WHO) on the 14th of last month as a Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities & Communities.
In particular, starting with the proclamation ceremony, Wanju-gun will promote 69 detailed projects across 8 major areas over the next three years.
The 8 major areas presented by WHO are classified into four categories: △ Safe and Comfortable First-Class Safety △ Happy for All Ages First-Class Welfare △ Healthy Living First-Class Health △ First-Class Leisure Enjoyed and Accessible to Everyone, which will be promoted over three years.
Park Seong-il, head of Wanju-gun, said, “The issues of the elderly’s lives are no longer problems only for the elderly but matters that the entire society must solve together,” and added, “I hope that not only the elderly but all residents will take an interest and actively support the age-friendly city Wanju that we will build in the future.”
Meanwhile, Wanju-gun has already been certified as a Child-Friendly City and a Social Economy-Friendly City, and with this recent certification as an Age-Friendly City, it has earned the honor of being a city friendly to the three major groups.
