According to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs on the 24th, the 7th West Sea Defense Day Commemoration Ceremony, held at 10 a.m. on the 25th at the National Daejeon Cemetery, was designated from 2016 as the fourth Friday of March to honor the 55 warriors who died in the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, the Cheonan ship attack, and the Yeonpyeong Island shelling, and to reaffirm the will to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula and protect the homeland.
The event will be held under the theme "Becoming the Stars of the West Sea, with Eternal Names." During the salute to the national flag, the voice of the late Major Yoon Young-ha will be restored using artificial intelligence (AI) to recite the pledge to the flag. Major Yoon was the commander of Patrol Boat Chamsuri 357 during the 2002 Second Battle of Yeonpyeong and died in action while engaging North Korean forces.
The memorial performance "Memory, Days Together" recalls moments shared through photos taken by the 55 West Sea Defense warriors with their families during their lifetimes, conveying that the public will not forget their sacrifices.
The commemorative video "With Immortal Names" tells the story of the six warriors of the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, revived as a new high-speed vessel, the Cheonan ship reborn as a new type of frigate, and the Marine Corps warriors who fought in the Yeonpyeong Island shelling provocation, newly named the "Yeonpyeong Island Shelling Battle," showcasing their fighting spirit.

The tribute performance "Becoming the Stars of the West Sea," created for West Sea Defense Day, expresses the determination of Navy and Marine Corps personnel guarding the Northern Limit Line (NLL) through a collaboration between singers and vocalists. Especially in the latter part of the performance, a memorial flight by the Air Force Black Eagles team will also be held.
