'25% Penalty Controversy' Lee Jun-seok: "Kim Jae-won, Trying to Cover the Sky with Your Palm"
"Let's Not Apply It Even to Metropolitan Leaders"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 23rd, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, actively denied allegations of interference regarding the nomination rules for the June 1 local elections (incumbent lawmakers -10%, former independent candidates -15%), saying, "Kim Jae-won, the Supreme Council member, is trying to cover the sky with his palm."
On the same day, Lee posted on his Facebook, "There are stories that I created the draft nomination plan prepared by the party's Planning and Coordination Bureau, but the meeting minutes include content that I rejected, and until the end, I argued that it should not even be applied to metropolitan mayors," he stated.
Supreme Council member Kim appeared on the radio that day and said, "The draft brought by the party leader is about thirteen pages long," adding, "It includes a 25% reduction for those with a history of leaving the party, a 25% reduction for those with disciplinary records, and a 15% reduction for those who have received disciplinary actions such as suspension of party membership." According to Kim, Lee proposed imposing harsher penalties than the finalized plan.

Lee completely refuted this, saying, "During the meeting, the head of the party's Planning Bureau mentioned that this was something reviewed by the bureau, and at that time, Supreme Council member Kim also said, 'I am not likely to run yet. Please do not see me as an interested party,' and participated in the discussion," he said.
