150 Million KRW Support for Bus Drivers Facing Income Loss Due to COVID-19
Non-Public Bus Routes and Charter Bus Drivers Targeting 86,000 People
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 23rd that 86,000 route and charter bus drivers whose income decreased due to COVID-19 will receive a living stabilization support fund of 1.5 million KRW starting from March 25.
The support targets are non-public route and charter bus drivers who have proven income reduction due to COVID-19 and must have been working as of March 4, having started on or before January 3, 2022 (including January 3).
However, gaps in employment caused by job changes or career transitions during the relevant period (7 days) or gaps caused by apprenticeship (15 days) are recognized as meeting the continuous service requirement.
Applicants who were selected as recipients after applying to local governments from March 14 to 18 will receive a one-time payment of 1.5 million KRW sequentially from March 25 without any additional application procedures for changes in the payment amount.
Furthermore, those who could not submit their applications within the period due to unavoidable reasons such as COVID-19 self-quarantine or who disagree with the payment decision can apply for additional applications and appeals from April 4 to 15.
Detailed information regarding the support fund payment, additional applications, and appeals can be found in the notices/announcements section on each local government’s website.
Yoon Jin-hwan, Director General of Comprehensive Transportation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "We will cooperate with local governments to promptly provide support to bus drivers who are facing difficulties due to income reduction caused by COVID-19, so that this can be of practical help."
